Re: Caroline Flack....
There has been a change in the nature of celebrities
Of course film stars and musicians etc have always been popular but for example James Dean was an actor in 3 films and died in an accident at the peak of his popularity.
I’m sure there were some untalented or pointless people without an obvious talent in days gone by who were well known but from the age of someone like Paris Hilton there are more and more people of that type.
People from reality tv and people famous by association ie Ozzy Osbournes kids , the entire Kardashian empire

Re: Caroline Flack....
Today with the advent of social media many "celebrities" clearly court the attention and publicity but it's been happening for years when they did the same thing through the tabloids. In the days of the Golden Age of Hollywood you didn't know an awful lot about the film stars of the time and it wasn't really until chat shows like Parky started to appear you actually got to know about those people.

I remember watching a show on BBC called The Hollywood Greats back in the 70's and that was about as close as you could get to finding out about the stars. They definitely seemed more private back then and it would be interesting to see how the likes of Dean, Garland, Sinatra and Grace Kelly would deal with social media if they were around today.

James dean was a talented actor.

The majority of "celebrities" these days are famous for a talent show, reality tv or shagging someone.

"once only applauded people who did things that mattered like scientists and doctors and people who help others.

Celebrities from TV and film are I suppose a reflection of the narcissistic culture we are all now a part of? "

Why do old people lie like this? TV and film stars have always been hugely popular. James DEAN croaked in the 50s and old cunts still go on about him now.
There's more channels, more forms of media, and the world is smaller, so there's more of them, for less notable things. But at its roots, nothing has changed.

Social media is fucking shit. But totally irrelevant here

Sad but very true, prominence goes to those who tug constantly for the attention of young people who do not read but love bullshit fake tv and social media I call them the youtube generation.
A prominent scientist would not even get a sniff these days the world has definitely gone to pot.

Never heard of Lizzy Cundy either. Googled her and apart from This Morning I've literally never heard of any of the other programs mentioned in her Wikipedia page and hardly any of the other names

Her claim to er…...fame is being once married to that footballing legend Jason Cundy for whatever that is worth!

She was 40

Ukrika-ka-ka Johnson was in the press today saying she put up with much worse shit than flack in the media. Much of her own making (affairs mainly).

Yup... Twitter is rife with comments about her saggy tits...

As bad as this will be for your credibility on here mashed? I agree with you.

Re: Caroline Flack....
But "the media" was her job, and most likely her entire life. Its not like she's some random civilian who's had her life ruined by a salacious headline based on a complete lie. She was an active cog in the machine and unfortunately it turned on her.

Most people blaming "the media" for her death were all too happy when her most recent gig was exposing the "relationships" of a load of strangers to the country's judgement.

Re: Caroline Flack....
Seems like a lot of celebs use and manipulate the media for their own good while the career is going well and popularity/celeb status is growing. If particular celebs do things that the public at large will frown at then the media will report it with various degreess of viciousness. I see it as a 2 way street and if you know the shit is hitting the fan then avoid the media. If your ego wont let you do this then buckle yaself in,the ride isnt going to be smooth.

Ukrika-ka-ka Johnson was in the press today saying she put up with much worse shit than flack in the media. Much of her own making (affairs mainly). But flack had the added shite of online trolling, this didn't exist when she was at her peak. And that she got off lightly.

When somebody dies in suspicious circumstances, we need to look for who benefits.

Has anyone checked Schofield's alibi?

Re: Caroline Flack....
Everyone complaining about the media hounding her. This is what happens.

The media build people up and then the first chance they use that built up game to sell their product with stories about them. Good or bad. Bad sells more product.

We've built up a society of fame crazed people. They all want to be famous on x factor, love island, you tube, Twitter etc. But often aren't prepared for the downside of this. The bad stories and the trolling.

This is all linked. With social media, trolling has increased exponentially. It's easy to take the piss online, hide behind a screen. Sticks and stones may break much bones no longer holds much weight. Mental health these days is much more fragile than it used to be. Social media, number of followers, likes fear of missing out... and the trolling is not like it used to be. Social media has completely changed bullying in schools. And the more social media grows and the more people crave fame for fame's sake, the worse this will get.

There's nothing about her being a psychologist, lawyer or case worker or anything.

1bill:

My humble opinion is that most of the country would be a lot happier if they detach themselves from all this showbiz shit.

Seems like there are literally millions of people who get genuinely emotionally invested in the private lives of celebs and 99% of them are complete trianwrecks. No shock that Love Island twitter is so toxic and that the people everyone is bitching about take it so personally they top themselves.
